Home MenuMayor's Proclamation: November 1, 2024
On November 1, 2024, Cary Mayor Harold Weinbrecht, Jr. issued a proclamation temporarily changing the spelling of Cary's name to "Carey" for one day, in honor of the seasonal joy and spirit of the holidays that legendary singer Mariah Carey brings to each holiday season, especially through her hit "All I Want for Christmas is You." November 1 is widely recognized by Mariah Carey, her fans, and culturally as the unofficial start to the holiday season, when we look ahead to gathering with loved ones and appreciating those things that are most precious to us.
In Cary, that season is celebrated with a multitude of events and programs starting in November and lasting into the new year, from a complete transformation of Cary's Downtown into a wonderland of lights and holiday atmosphere to the regional favorite Chinese Lantern Festival. It's this celebration of culture, togetherness, and wonder that is at the very heart of Cary's mission to its community, and one that is shared with Ms. Carey as her music brings joy to millions every year. In this same spirit, Cary has collaborated with local radio station Mix 101 to host a special Mariah Carey-themed Carey-oke at Downtown Cary Park on November 22.
