Medium: Basketry

Jan Harrison has moved from making traditional rugs to abstract tapestry and from weaving vessels to free form sculptural basketry. The Artist states, “As a weaver on a loom there is frustration inherent in the nature of the beast. One weaves in a straight line again and again. I love curves, movement, and texture. I have done extensive experimentation in achieving movement and using yarns of many sizes and textures. I use the same movement and texture in my basketry as well as at the loom. Look for unexpected materials, shapes and colors.”
