The Cary Police Department operates under a law enforcement philosophy we call Geo Policing, which enables our officers to become experts on the needs, issues and concerns of the people within their district. Partnerships with our citizens are critically important because in Cary, we believe that community safety is directly tied to how involved our citizens are with helping keep it safe. What is important to our citizens is important to us. The  success of this program has been determined by how our citizens feel about it and by the changes in crime statistics. For the past 6 years, we have successfully used Geo Policing as a tool to help keep Cary as one of the best places to live, work and raise a family in America.

Geo Policing only involves the Department’s Field Operations Bureau; other functions such as Criminal Investigations, Traffic Services, and Animal Services remain town-wide operations.

Cary is also participating in the Reimagining Policing Pledge, which was signed on June 3, 2020, by Mayor Harold Weinbrecht.
