About Cary Fire

Cary FD tiller truckThe Cary Fire Department currently employs 245 employees who serve a population of close to 180,000 in a 58-square-mile area. The Cary Fire Department is organized into five divisions: AdministrationLogisticsOperations, Training, and the Office of the Fire Marshal. Cary Fire has an administrative office, nine stations, nine engine companies, four ladder companies, and three rescue companies.

Fire Administration employs one fire chief, one deputy fire chief, three assistant fire chiefs, one training chief, two training captains, one fire and emergency services analyst, and two administrative support staff. Suppression is made up of 224 full-time personnel. Each shift has three battalion chiefs, 16 captains, 18 engineers, 16 master firefighters and 23 firefighters. Suppression personnel work a 53-hour work week consisting of three rotating 24.5-hour work days.
