This year, we are truly humbled to have you join us as we honor and celebrate the Life and Legacy of one of our nation's true Unsung American Heroes, Major James Capers, of the United States Marine Corps.

Major Capers was the first African American in history to command a Marine Recon company and the first enlisted African American Marine Officer to receive a battlefield commission. He has been awarded the Silver Star, two Bronze Stars, three Purple Hearts, the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, a Navy Commendation Medal and is nominated for the Medal of Honor.
