Town of Cary Infrastructure Field Services Technicians must be notified of the following items of construction and processes so that an inspection can be made before backfill operations may commence. Contact your assigned Field Services Technician or call the Infrastructure Field Services Supervisor at (919) 469-4036 to schedule an inspection.
No construction of any water system can begin until construction plans have been approved, waterline extension permits are issued and material submittals have been presented.
- Review materials delivered on site
- Boring and jacking (spiders/skids, sealing end of casing etc.)
- Tapping sleeves and valves with blocking (hydrostatically tested up to 200-psi)
- Blow off assemblies
- Restraint systems for valves
- Reducers shall be restrained
- Reaction blocking behind tees, bends, cap or any other fittings that may require reaction blocking (before and after pouring)
- Thrust collar assemblies prior to pouring (rebar cage, forms and clearance) and after pouring
- Fire hydrant assemblies from tee to fire hydrant
- Crossing separation between reclaimed, sewer and storm drainage pipe
- Meter vaults and assemblies
- Air release manhole (no doghouse manholes)
- Pressure test (a hydrostatic test at a pressure of 200 psi for two (2) hours), “Pressure Test Report” completed
- Purity test “Bacteriological Test and Turbidity” (not to exceed 0.8 NTU)
- Services from the tap to meter box
- Functional and final of fire hydrants
Contact the Public Works Department at (919) 469-4090 to fill the pipes. Contractor cannot operate tie-in valve or any new valve that is connected directly with the existing water supply.
Contact Cary’s Fire Marshall at (919) 469-4056 to inspect the Fire Department Connections (FDC) and Fire Line after the Post Indicator Valve (PIV).
