Mission Statement
The Town of Cary’s Public Art Advisory Board provides representation for the citizens of Cary in partnership with the Cultural Arts Division of the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department and the Town Council in promoting understanding, appreciation, support and involvement in the Town of Cary’s Public Art Program. Committed to the highest aesthetic standards and broadest involvement of citizens and artists and consistent with the Town of Cary’s Public Art Master Plan, the Board provides advice and recommendations to Town Council and Town of Cary staff on matters relating to the administration, acquisition and inclusion of public artworks in Cary.
Life Span Statement
The Public Art Advisory Board is a standing board, which meets monthly. The PAAB’s responsibilities are ongoing as the Town engages in capital projects and private development continues to occur. Board members will reexamine their purpose every three years beginning in 2013.
Powers and Duties
The Public Art Advisory Board provides advice and recommendations to Town Council and staff on all matters relating to the administration, acquisition, and inclusion of public artworks in Cary. The board reviews and makes recommendations regarding potential projects and assists staff in drafting a public art ordinance. This board advises council and staff regarding implementation of the Public Art Master Plan (Executive Summary). Members are required to attend monthly meetings and may serve on specific project subcommittees.Membership
The Public Art Advisory Board consists of nine members appointed by Town Council with representation from local visual arts organizations, working artists, architects, private development community and the general public. All appointments to the commission are for three-year terms, except where unexpired terms are being filled.Current Goals/Work Plan

The board meets monthly at 6:15 p.m. in Conference Room 11130, 316 N. Academy St., Cary. Meetings are approximately 2 hours in length and may require additional study time to review materials prior to the meeting. Members may also be expected to participate in related activities outside of regularly scheduled board meetings, such as artist selection panels, community outreach and education, as well as attend related committee meetings.
