Mission Statement

The Senior Advisory Board collaborates with staff to advise Council in the creation of an inclusive and connected environment to support senior services in Cary. Through advocacy, policy, planning, and engagement in emerging issues, members will serve to promote the advancement of a safe, inclusive and diverse senior network.

Life Span Statement

The Senior Advisory Board is a standing board which meets monthly.  Board members will reexamine their purpose every three years.

Powers and Duties

The Senior Advisory Board's general scope of work is to explore the following key areas in their relation to senior citizens:

  • Housing
  • Transportation & Mobility
  • Communications & Community Connections
    • Cary Facilities
    • Serve as Ambassadors
  • Health & Wellness
  • Recreational Activities
  • Safety & Security
  • Emerging Trends

Membership

The Senior Advisory Board will consist of seven board members, one of whom the Town Council designates as chairperson. Initial appointments will be staggered with a mix of one, two, and three-year terms, with all future appointments made for three-year terms. Members should be seniors or involved with senior services.

Meetings

The board meets monthly at 12:00 p.m. and requires approximately 2 hours per month for meetings and study time prior to meetings. Board members may also be expected to spend time outside of their regularly scheduled meetings for related work which may include, but is not limited to, working in smaller work groups, research, and community outreach and education.
