2022 Hometown Spirit Award Recipient
From Nominators:
Bob Moncsko is the epitome of a selfless good Samaritan who is willing to share his time and expertise to better the lives of others through his volunteerism with the Cary Senior TechEd, a club at the Cary Senior Center. With his technical background and helpful nature, Bob’s assistance has been a major factor in upgrading the services at the Cary Senior Center to make it one of the more inclusive and respected programs in the area.
We first met Bob as a new volunteer to Cary Senior Technology Education (CSTE). As a coach for classes, it became obvious that Bob would be a good instructor since he related well with the seniors in our classes. He quickly moved into teaching and was very effective. His enthusiasm for teaching was obvious.
We refer to Bob Moncsko as a Renaissance man. He is so thoroughly knowledgeable on so many subjects but has the gift of explaining details to others on a level they can understand. It is unusual for such a technically proficient genius to relate to others with such caring, patience, tolerance, and humor; all traits that make him an excellent teacher.
With the death of our then technical director, Bob took on the duties and responsibilities that came with the position and became a member of our Board of Directors. Bob elevated the role of technical director far beyond his predecessor by bringing our lab up to date, establishing our help desk, maintaining our CSTE website, working with the Town of Cary to upgrade the Senior Center internet and installing Smart TV technology in classrooms.
When one seeks Bob’s expertise and advise he is always kind and extremely obliging. He has made us better teachers, organizers, researchers and computer operators with his guidance and suggestions. Bob will make himself available on short notice if it is not between 11:00 and 1:00 when he committed to visiting his 98-year-old mother every day for lunch. His devotion to others extends beyond family to his entire community. He developed and coordinated the very successful Help Desk for the Town of Cary that utilizes volunteers to assist others with computer issues.
As a neighbor, Bob goes far beyond what would be considered neighborly. Many times, when trying to reach him, his wife related that he was out assisting a neighbor with a home maintenance problem or helping an elderly neighbor mow his lawn.
Recently, there was an elderly invalid woman who was home bound and needed her computer to do her banking, her shopping and have her groceries delivered. Her computer ceased to function as needed and she had no access to the outside world. Bob would not rest until he visited her, fixed her computer problems, and made sure she was back up and running.
We are honored and privileged to call Bob our friend and are proud to nominate him for this award. We would all be better off with a few more Bob Moncskos in our corner.
