2013 Hometown Spirit Award Recipient

If there are two words that are synonymous with Cary Spirit, those words are Jerry Miller. His accolades are many, some of which include: illustrated and published Around and About Cary book in 1970 and 1994, designed the logo for the Cary Bicentennial in 1971, and founded Lazy Daze Arts & Craft Festival in 1977, which has grown to be one of the largest festivals on the east coast.

He was interviewed by The Cary Citizen in March 2010, and most recently was featured on the cover of Cary Magazine in May 2013, where they called him a “walking Chamber of Commerce”. On his 80^th birthday, February 11, 2012, the Mayor proclaimed it Jerry Miller Day.

He has been the Cary Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year, Rotarian of the Year and the Herb Young Volunteer of the Year.

But more than all the honors and awards are his roots in this town. When he moved to Cary in 1957, he planted himself and grew his family and his love for this town, always going above and beyond to do whatever he could to make Cary a place “where better living begins.”

We would love to see Jerry Miller receive the Hometown Spirit Award. In our eyes, no one deserves it more.
