The week the Town of Cary declared a State of Emergency, The Cary Theater’s marquee advertised the movies scheduled for that week — movies that wouldn’t, in fact, happen.
Cultural Arts Manager William Lewis came up with the idea to update the marquee with a public message to serve as a beacon of hope for the Cary community. It was ultimately he, thanks to a staff brainstorming session, who would come up with the message:
“Intermission: Be Safe, Be Kind, Be Cary”
While many things have changed in the third quarter of FY 2020 as the region, state, country and world respond to the ongoing health crisis, one thing hasn’t changed — the ingenuity, empathy and community spirit of our employees.
It is those qualities, among others, that have allowed Cary to be such a great place to live, work and play while maintaining healthy financial reserves. I am confident that our Cary team will continue to overcome challenges and adapt to changing circumstances as this health emergency continues. We are prepared to weather this storm together.
However, during Q3, Cary did have 2.5 months of normal operations. This report covers those updates, including launching 311 as a service, construction updates on major capital projects and a financial check-in.
I’m looking forward to our next Quarterly Meeting in the future. And, in the words of our very own William Lewis, Be Safe, Be Kind, Be Cary.
