The Albatross, a new bar featuring golf simulators, is coming to downtown Cary at 140 E. Chatham St. this August. According to Triangle Business Journal, The Albatross will feature two golf simulators made by the brand TrackMan — the same brand used on the PGA Tour. These simulators will also offer family-friendly programs like miniature golf.

Imagine Cary calls for the Weston Parkway area to become a Mixed Use Employment Campus with a walkable urban framework. To that end, Cary is evaluating and reenvisioning the area’s land use and urban design, including bicycle and pedestrian connectivity, as part of a study. Cary staff procured
a consultant, collected data, and met with Highwoods Properties as one of the major stakeholders in the area. The study is currently moving into conceptual sketches and is anticipated to conclude this winter.

 

In Q4, Cary issued permits for six nonresidential projects for a total of 173,892 square feet. The largest project included the parking garage for Meridian Cary at Harrison Avenue and West Chatham Street. The five-story garage contains 478 parking spaces with 225 dedicated public spaces and 253 private spaces for the adjoining apartment building and commercial uses.

 

Cary issued 118 nonresidential alterations and additions permits in Q4. Highlights include:  

• American Tower, 1 Fenton Main St.: Permit issued for the upfit of new office space at Fenton.
• Towne Bank, 100 Walnut St.: Permit issued for a new bank tenant on the first floor of the Lee & Associates building.

During Q4, 33 cases were in the rezoning process; 5 cases were approved.  

• 22-REZ-26, 4224 and 4300 Green Level West Road: Annexes and rezones 3.83 acres to Residential 20-Conditional Use (R-20-CU), Watershed Protection Overlay District (Jordan Lake Subdistrict), and Conservation Residential Overlay District (Low-Density). 4224 Green Level West Road, Town-owned property, will be dedicated right of way for the construction of Yates Store Road Extension. 4300 Green Level West Road was a voluntary annexation and rezoning case.
• 22-REZ-22, 107 W. Park St.: Rezones approximately 0.28 acres to Town Center High-Intensity Mixed Use-Conditional Use (TC-HMXD-CU) to allow for two detached dwelling units.
• 21-REZ-17, Destin Phase 3, 911 and 1045 Lewter Shop Road: Annexes and rezones 31.67 acres to Residential 12-Conditional Use (R-12-CU) for a maximum of 40 dwelling units and associated neighborhood recreation uses.
• 22-REZ-13, Kanoy Tract, 45 Thompson Road,  1012 and 0 Lewter Shop Road: Annexes and rezones 100.88 acres to Residential 8-Conditional Use (R-8-CU) and Watershed Protection Overlay District (Jordan Lake Subdistrict) with a maximum of 1.4 dwelling units per acre, 50,000 square feet of community gathering area, and transportation improvements.

In Q4, Cary approved 40 development plans. The notable plans approved this quarter were:

• Alston Town Center-Phase 1C Infrastructure, 4601 N.C. 55: Infrastructure plan to extend water, sewer, and stormwater utilities and High Branch Street to Highcroft Drive and Highcroft Drive under I-540 for a new private recreation facility, apartments, and retail uses.
• Legacy Cary, Twyla Road and Morrisville Parkway: New 390-unit multifamily apartment development with clubhouse and public and private amenities.
• MacGregor Village Residence Inn, 103 Edinburgh South Dr.: New 122-room hotel in the MacGregor Village Shopping Center.
