This quarter, Cary issued eight non-residential permits for a total of 41,161 square feet. Some projects of note include: 

• Mother Teresa Catholic Church, 1120 Yates Store Road: Construction of a 13,045-square-foot worship center and multi-purpose space.
• Downtown Cary Park Phase 2, 317 S. Academy St.: Building permits were approved for the Academy Pavilion (12,619 square feet), the Performance Pavilion (3,390 square feet), the Gathering House (1,665 square feet), and the Nest Restroom (398 square feet).
• Eagles Convenience Store and Gas Station, 3920 N.C. 55: The building permit was approved for a 9,804-square-foot convenience store and gas station.

Cary issued 143 non-residential alteration and addition permits this quarter. Projects of note include: 

• Long Beverage Warehouse, 10500 World Trade Blvd.: A warehouse addition for a new automated storage and retrieval system.
• Paragon Theater, 21 Fenton Main St.: Interior construction for a new dine-in movie theater as part of the Fenton development. 
• MetLife, 301 MetLife Way: Interior alterations of three floors to accommodate a new building tenant.

This quarter, 18 cases were in the rezoning process with four cases approved. Those cases include:

• Towerview Court PDD Rezoning, 330 Towerview Court: Rezoning from Industrial to Planned Development District Major and limiting the use to a maximum of 150 townhouses, 450 multi-family dwellings, and up to 10,000 square feet of commercial uses.
• Echo Park Car Dealership, 2333 Walnut St.: Rezoning to allow additional permitted uses, including new or used car and truck sales, vehicle service (light), and indoor drive-thru car wash.
• Roberts Road Residential, 7436 Roberts Road:  Rezoning from Wake County Residential 40 Watershed to Transitional Residential Conditional Use and Watershed Protection Overlay District (Jordan Lake Subdistrict). Proposed zoning conditions include limiting the uses to townhouses, neighborhood recreation center, and associated accessory uses. Additional conditions limit the property to a maximum of 16 dwelling units and a maximum of two units per dwelling.  
• Dellinger PDD Amendment, 1901 Piney Plains Road: Rezoning to amend the previously approved Dellinger Planned Development District to allow up to 285 multi-family residential units, 20 townhomes, and 50,000 square feet of office space. The development includes a commitment to use of solar panels and will include at least 15 workforce housing units. 

This quarter, Cary approved 34 development projects. Notable plans include: 

• Carpenter Fire Station Road Park, 7117 Carpenter Fire Station Road: Creation of a 20-acre neighborhood park located at the southwest corner of Carpenter Fire Station Road and Highcroft Drive. Plans for the new park include parking, park shelters, a central open lawn area with a playground, a misting feature, fitness elements, and lighted baseball fields. 
• McCrimmon Parkway Park, 3800 Cary Glen Blvd.: Creation of a 21-acre neighborhood park. Plans for the new park include parking, park shelters, a ninja course, six tennis courts, and six pickleball courts. 
• Searstone Phase 2, 17001 Searstone Drive: Expansion of the existing Searstone retirement community, including a health-care building and an independent living building. Site improvements also include roads, walkways, community gathering spaces, and site utilities. 
• Abberly Alston, 2132 Alston Ave.: Construction of a multi-family complex with 330 units, 41 townhouses, a clubhouse, and amenities. 
• Bainbridge Cary, 9263 Chapel Hill Road: Construction of a four-building, multi-family complex with 260 units at the corner of Chapel Hill Road and Northwest Maynard Road. 
• Weston Parkway Hotel, 1000 Winstead Drive: Development plan for the construction of a seven-story hotel with 246 rooms and a three-story parking deck within the Weston Planned Development District.

Fenton continues to take shape with the installation of the first water meters and the issuance of the first building permits. The first two building permits went to Sephora and Arhaus, which can begin completing the space interiors and storefront facades. A total of 10 other retail tenants (Athleta, Coletta, Dram & Draught, Free People, Lululemon, Nike Live, One Medical, Pottery Barn, Superica, and Williams Sonoma) also have building permits under review as the project continues working toward an April 2022 grand opening.
