Cary hosted two on-site vaccine clinics this fall. WakeMed staff provided 82 employees their shots on Sept. 21 and Oct. 6. Cary coordinated the vaccine clinics to protect employees, their loved ones, and colleagues while contributing to a safer workplace.  

This quarter, Town Clerk Virginia Johnson completed the UNC School of Government Public Executive Leadership Academy. This course provides participants with the opportunity to gain skills to manage change in their organization and community while learning more about themselves as leaders. Presentations included modules from local government experts such as John Nalbandian and Willow Jacobson, as well as trends that governments face in the future. As part of a leadership development project, Johnson explored increasing applicant diversity in Cary’s advisory volunteer recruitment. 

Cary officially launched its Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion on July 1. The launch of this office underscores Cary’s commitment to promoting an organization that is diverse, equitable, and inclusive in alignment with the organization’s values. Having an Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and team leading the work will play a major role in building on a legacy of excellence as Cary continues to grow, learn, and evolve in this area.  

This quarter, Cary partnered with Wake Technical Community College to train and certify more than 50 employees in CPR, first aid, and AED with additional classes scheduled in the coming months. More than 100 employees are also being educated in bloodborne pathogen awareness to minimize their risk and exposure. Providing safety training and certifications to employees is just one way Cary keeps its employees and citizens safe.
