Construction at Fenton continued to progress upward with building framing for the mixed-use office buildings, the mixed-use residential buildings, and the four small, “jewel box” retail spaces on Fenton Main Street. The contractor also completed the sewer connection to Walnut Creek, pending final testing. This quarter, Cary approved 10 building permits and three development plans for the site.

Bull City Ciderworks announced it will open a new location in the Williams House in downtown Cary. The Williams House development is a project of Chatham Street Commercial, involving the relocation of a portion of the house and incorporating it into a modern office addition. The downtown Cary location will be Bull City Ciderworks’s fourth location, where they will offer cider and cider cocktails. This is the first announced tenant in the Williams House development.

In Q3, Cary issued 21 non-residential permits for 1.2 million square feet of office, retail, and multi-family projects. Some notable projects are: 

• Glenaire Expansion, 6000 Glenview Garden Place: Construction of a 658,100-square-foot, six-story building with 192 independent living units, 37 multi-family units, as well as service, adult daycare, and amenity spaces.
• Bee Safe Storage, 2500 Campbell Road: Construction of a three-story, climate-controlled, self-storage facility.

In Q3, Cary issued 99 non-residential alteration and addition permits. Notable projects are:

• Cary Town Hall, 316 N. Academy Street: The replacement of the 52,200-square-foot roof.
• Cary Private School, 1120 Buck Jones Road: Renovation of an existing indoor recreation facility to a K-8 private school for 500 students and 45 staff. The project also contains associated parking, pedestrian access, and a playground area.
• Golden Hex Grocery, 1246 N.W. Maynard Road: Expansion of an existing grocery store. Construction work will include combining two tenant spaces and adding two walk-in freezer and cooler units.
• Scratch Kitchen & Taproom, 160 E. Cedar Street: Alteration and expansion of the former Postmasters restaurant. The project includes relocating ADA-compliant restrooms, reworking kitchen equipment, and adding new seating.

In Q3, there were 19 cases in the rezoning process with two cases approved:

• 6012 Farmpond Road: Rezoning and annexation request for about 5.36 acres. The property owner requested to rezone the property from a Wake County designation of Residential 40 Watershed (R-40 W) to Town of Cary Residential 40 (R-40) and Watershed Protection Overlay District (Jordan Lake Sub-district).
• Long Beverage, 10500 World Trade Boulevard: Rezoning request for about 5.29 acres at 10500 and 3815 World Trade Boulevard and 3723, 3809, and 3805 Page Road. The applicant, ROCRO, LLC, requested to rezone the properties from a Wake County designation of Office Research and Development and Durham County designation of Industrial Light to Town of Cary Office Research and Development Conditional Use (ORD-CU). 

In Q3, Cary approved 36 development plans. Notable plans include: 

• Downtown Cary Park, 338 S. Walker Street: Construction of the Downtown Cary Park infrastructure.
  North Harrison Hotels, 1623 N. Harrison Avenue: Construction of a 160,719-square-foot, seven-story, dual-branded hotel and necessary site improvements. 
• WCPSS STEM Early College, 2205 Walnut Street: Redevelopment of the existing Miller-Motte facility into a Wake County Public School System STEM Early College. The project will reuse the existing building and proposes reducing impervious surface on site.
• Buck Jones School Conversion, 1120 Buck Jones Road: Renovation of an existing indoor recreation facility to a K-8 private school for 500 students and 45 staff. The project also contains associated parking, pedestrian access, and playground area.
• Bee Safe Storage, 2500 Campbell Road: Construction of an 84,000-square-foot mini-storage facility.
