Home MenuIn Moving Cary Forward
On April 3, we kicked off the fourth quarter by celebrating Cary’s 150th year since its incorporation, and I can’t think of a better way to end FY 2021 than with the groundbreaking of the Downtown Cary Park.
As we celebrate the journey from our past to our present, we are making a lasting mark on our future. The Downtown Cary Park is the embodiment of all the hard work and vision of our Cary employees and citizens to make real this future regional destination, this future regional jewel. What started with citizens selecting the amenities they value in a park turned into more than I could have ever expected, including a performance pavilion, bark bar, gathering garden, and more.
Throughout FY 2021, despite the many challenges associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, we have continued to make progress on the park and other Shaping Cary’s Tomorrow bond projects. On top of that, Council approved the FY 2022 budget, which included a half-cent property tax decrease.
Other big news this quarter included Apple’s announcement to lease office space in Cary while it works toward creating a major campus in Research Triangle Park. In addition, the Town of Cary observed Juneteenth for the first time as an official paid holiday.
We look forward to providing additional updates related to the Downtown Cary Park, Cary’s 150th anniversary, financials, and development at our next Quarterly Meeting on August 12 at the Courtyard Marriott in Parkside Town Commons.
While FY 2021 may have been an unexpected year for all of us, the work and care of Cary employees and citizens was not at all unexpected. And after all of the challenges of this fiscal year, I am pleased to end it with so many positives. As always, I look forward to meeting with you for our upcoming Quarterly Meeting.
