STREET NAMING/STREET NUMBERING SYSTEM

Purpose

The purpose of this policy is to identify the guidelines under which real property will be numbered and new streets will receive names. 

Coverage

This policy applies to all activities in the Town of Cary which result in real property receiving numbered addresses and street names.

Policy

The Town of Cary is responsible for numbering real property and naming streets within its town limits and extraterritorial planning jurisdiction. This responsibility is derived through our statutory responsibility for the review and approval of development, our responsibility to protect the health and welfare of our citizens and provide them with public services. In order for the naming and numbering systems to be useful and efficient, they need to be clearly defined, used consistently over time and conform to all relevant state laws and local ordinances governing these activities.

It is the policy of the Town of Cary that street naming and numbering will be finalized in the development review process of the Town of Cary. Street names and real property numbers will be assigned using the systems identified in the appropriate standard procedures established for naming streets and numbering property.
