Since its adoption, the Imagine Cary Community Plan has become our reference in all that we do, from providing high-quality public services, capital planning, financial management, protecting nature and the environment, and managing future land use. The citizens and community leaders who worked so hard to create Imagine Cary knew that periodic updates would be needed. This updated version of Imagine Cary builds upon the strong foundation established in 2017 while incorporating new insights and addressing contemporary challenges.

The Public Hearing for the update is scheduled for the next Council meeting on Tuesday, October 22, at 6:30 p.m.

The update focuses on four items and is not amending the entire plan. The items included in the update are (click on the links to review each item):

1. a new preface for the plan;
2. the incorporation of the 2021 Cary Housing Plan into the Live chapter;
3. expanding efforts related to the environment, which was previously included in the Serve chapter, into a new chapter called Enrich;
4. and an update to the Serve chapter focused on our evolving community services.

The initial public review and comment period was from January 23-March 31, 2024. All comments are considered public record. Staff has incorporated feedback received during the initial public review period and the text has been formatted into a final draft for review.
