Background

The region is undertaking the implementation of the Wake Transit Plan, which was adopted in June 2016 by the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (CAMPO), Wake County and the Research Triangle Public Transportation Authority (GoTriangle). The Wake County Transit Plan allocates significant resources to the Town of Cary’s transit system (GoCary) to support the system’s growth of community-based fixed route bus services where need exists over the next 10 years.

As a result of this allocation, the Town is upgrading its existing bus stops and planning for expansion by exploring new alignments and adding new stops.

Bus Stop Improvements

The Town of Cary is continuing to pursue upgrades to all bus stops throughout the GoCary system. These upgrades will transform the passenger experience throughout the Town by enhancing safety, accessibility, and passenger information media. As part of these ongoing improvements, the Town will:

  • Construct ADA-accessible landing pads and install applicable amenities at all new bus stops;
  • Retrofit existing GoCary bus stops with ADA-accessible concrete landing pads, eliminating the need to board and alight buses on grass;
  • Improve security by assessing lighting needs at each bus stop location and install lighting fixtures as warranted;
  • Install easy-to-read customer information panels at all bus stops, which will include route and schedule information.
  • Continue to improve customer experience by maintaining and improving existing amenities.
