In recent years, Cary has experienced an increase in multi-family developers requesting reductions to the number of parking spaces they are required to provide, suggesting a market trend towards lower rates of multi-family parking. To ensure future multi-family residential development is successful, Cary recognizes the need and opportunity to ensure our parking rates are appropriately balanced, and provide adequate parking to residents while not creating excess development costs associated with surplus parking, or large surface parking lots that lessen walkability and open space.  

Working with Walker Consulting, this project will collect data and analyze parking demand at several apartment developments across Cary, to assess what rates are most appropriate for current and future multi-family development.
