Project Overview

A new traffic signal will be installed at Cary Parkway at Norwell Boulevard as a result of a traffic engineering study performed by Cary and approved by NCDOT. The results of that study indicated that there exists a potential for safety improvement through the installation of a traffic signal. Other safety measures were taken into consideration during this process to determine the most appropriate action to take at this intersection.  Council approved funding for this project, ST 3504, to include fiber connectivity to the Cary Traffic Signal Network, accessible pedestrian facilities, GIS based emergency vehicle preemption, connected vehicle hardware, steel mast arms and a networked pan-tilt-zoom IP camera.

This project will include construction of sidewalk on the south side of Cary Parkway connecting Silverrock Court and Silverridge Court. This sidewalk connectivity will allow for the current pedestrian crossing treatment at Silverridge Court to be removed.

Cary Pkwy at Norwell Signal

The intersection improvements are a much-needed addition to this busy section of roadway. Creating a signalized intersection and pedestrian crossings with signage will result in an increase in safety. When complete, traffic will flow efficiently, and a safe walking environment will be provided for pedestrians.
