This multifaceted planting project includes

• enhancing the existing orchard with NC native persimmon and plum trees; pear, mulberry, cherry, peach, pecan, fig, serviceberry, and paw paw trees; blueberry bushes and more,
• installing two pollinator gardens, a rain garden at the bottom of the orchard slope that takes advantage of the natural flow of water, and a meadow pollinator garden that is intended to thrive in a dry and sunny space without additional irrigation, and 
• adding over a total of 100 trees and bushes throughout the property.

Work began January 2022 and expected to be completed in spring 2022. 

As of February 21, 2021, this planting project is complete. 

As a part of a restoration project, by spring 2021 dogwoods, red oaks and live oaks will be planted to honor and celebrate the history and people buried in Cary’s first African American cemetery. Planting to begin February 2021 and be completed by March 1, 2021.

Cary Town Council members will be planting seven Cherrybark oaks at 1:00 PM September 25, 2021 at the Cary Tree Archive.

As of April 2, 2021, this project is complete.

We are planting trees at two sites at NCWRF with the goal of capturing carbon and helping reduce maintenance costs. The first is a reforestation, where we will fill a space with native trees such as red maple, blackgum and redbud. The second is a beautiful native planting on a slope to screen the facility using hollies, cedars and magnolias.

As of April 1, 2021, this tree plantings project is complete.

A variety of trees will be planted in several areas within the park to provide more shade and enhance wildlife habitat and environmental quality. In addition, pecans, persimmons, pears and other fruiting trees will provide tasty treats for park visitors and wildlife.

This site provides us an opportunity to reintroduce trees that complement an area designated for future facility expansion. The stand of trees has the unique benefit of being irrigated with onsite reclaimed water and nourished with EnviroGems, a fertilizer produced onsite as part of the wastewater treatment process.
