The Town Council adopted an official Cary flag in June 2001. Town staff members worked with a graphic artist to develop it after reviewing nearly two dozen alternatives. A different municipal flag had flown previously. However, Town officials could find no record that the council had adopted that flag as the official flag of the municipal corporation.
