Join us for Cary's 4th Annual Community Lantern Parade!
Parade will begin Saturday, January 11, 2025 at 6 p.m. and will go until 7:30 p.m.
The location of the parade will be within Cary's new Downtown Park!

- Gather with your lanterns at 6 p.m. on the Frantz Square Lawn. Parade leaves at 6:15 p.m.
- No pets, fire, or candle-lit lanterns please!
- Music and entertainment will be announced soon!
- Food trucks will be announced soon!
- Come join the party and celebrate the change of the season!
- This event is free and open to the public

Workshop Information
Academy Street Artwork Projects is excited to have internationally renowned visual teaching artist Gowri Savoor on board to lead a series of lantern-making workshops and the Under the Silver Moon Lantern parade as a part of the GLOW 2025 outdoor exhibition.
Throughout November, December, and January, there will be several community workshops led by Gowri to create lantern structures using sustainable materials. The lanterns will be used for a community lantern parade which will be held on January 11.

Large-Scale Workshop
Kinetic Professional Development Lantern Making Session
Sunday, October 27
10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Registration: $25 per person
Join visual teaching artists Gowri Savoor and Angelo Arnold for a fun and unique workshop to learn how to design a large scale lantern that has movable parts/sections of the lantern for Cary’s Under the Silver Moon Lantern Parade. Recommended for those taking the 2-day large-scale lantern workshop on Nov. 2 and 3.
The experience will culminate in a celebration of light parade in Downtown Cary Park on January 11, 2025.
This class is recommended if you plan to attend the 2-day large scale workshop. You will learn how to properly design and build the skeleton of your large scale lantern.
Large Scale Lantern Workshop for Artists & Teachers (2-day)
Saturday, November 2 and Sunday, November 3
10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Registration: $50 per person
Lantern Making Workshops
Vellum Tower Lantern
Suitable for ages 6 and up, children under 12 must be supervised by an guardian
Saturday, November 16, 10 a.m.-noon

Rattan Sphere Lantern
Suitable for ages 8 and up, children under 12 must be supervised by an guardian
Saturday, November 9, 10 a.m.-noon

Star Lantern
Suitable for ages 8 and up, children under 12 must be supervised by an guardian

Suitable for ages 10 and up, children under 12 must be supervised by an guardian

This is a workshop series you, your family, and friends won't want to miss! Join artists Gowri Savoor and Angelo Arnold from A River of Light to make a magical lantern for Cary's annual community lantern parade. Lanterns are made from sustainable materials and can be used to illuminate your home after the parade is over! Suitable for all ages. Under the Silver Moon is part of GLOW outdoor exhibition.
