This New Pedestrian Tunnel will connect the Weston Trail with the Crabtree Creek Greenway, providing access to a regional trail system and Lake Crabtree. Lake Crabtree is a prime destination for neighborhood residents, nearby office workers, school children, and visitors alike. Imagery of water is inspiring and symbolic. Water is associated with the source of of life. Also, its symbolism encompasses many different meanings, across many different cultures. Water is universal. It is associated with birth, fertility, transformation, cleansing, dreams, wisdom, memory, and much, much more. Lake Crabtree is a prime destination for people walking the Weston Trail. It will connect trail users to the lake. I find this connection compelling so I decided to work with imagery of water for the Crabtree Tunnel wall patterning systems.
The following images convey our ”inspired by water” concept for
Crabtree Creek Connector. The project includes custom cast concrete
walls suggesting water patterns and 8”x8” Dal Natural Hue Tiles to
introduce a playful path through the tunnel suggesting a wave motion.
