In the fall of 2019, to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Cary's greenways, artists Carl and Ethan Peverall were commissioned to install their stone sculpture "Properties of Light," at Cary's first greenway between Tarbert Drive and Gatehouse Drive. This towering work of art marks Cary's first greenway segment. It comprises two stone columns standing just over seven feet tall made from a large split western North Carolina granite river stone and a chunky Tennessee sandstone. The piece weighs approximately 2,000 pounds.
