The designs in Shared Histories are based on wallpaper, linoleum, and ornamental details found in Cary’s historic buildings. They create a public space where citizen’s either riding, walking or driving by in cars can connect with Cary’s history.

The long glass panels reference wallpaper. By adding these designs largely based on wallpaper, the user of the shelter is placed in a comfortable, familiar setting.

The six designs are linked to their historical source with a decal on the glass panel closest to the bench. The decal displays an image and information about the historic site on which the glass design is based, as well as a link for more information about the art and Cary’s bus system. Each design is unique to a particular route and offers the rider an additional way to identify routes. Color added to the overall design by painting the benches with the C-Tran Blue color.
