Description: This commission includes three sculptures for the new apartment community called Solis Alston Apartments in the Alston Activity Center area of western Cary. The artist created the leaves of the main sculpture to resemble those of an immature agave or mullein plant. The two smaller sculptures are smaller versions of the large sculpture. The organic form of the sculptures represents the birth of a new community and contrasts with the rectilinear lines of the building architecture. The use of weathered steel pays homage to the industrial past of central North Carolina, just as the building architecture is inspired by the tobacco barn architecture of the Piedmont.
