Shred Consoles at Town Facilities
Now you can bring your old documents and papers for shredding and recycling any day of the week at a Town facility! Cary has installed shredding consoles at six Town facilities for the collection and safe disposal of old papers, bills, account statements, and other sensitive documents (no magazines, books, electronics, or commercial interests are accepted). Documents are kept secure and collected regularly, then securely transported to a facility for shredding and recycling. Cary residents can bring up to one banker's box to one of the following facilities during its normal operating hours:
- Bond Park Community Center
- Herb Young Community Center
- Middle Creek Community Center
- The Cary Senior Center
- The Hive
- Garmon Operations Center
These consoles are managed and secured by Shred-it, which has also organized Cary's annual shred event each November. Their containers are secured onsite, with regular pickup and chain-of-custody protection at each touchpoint. A certificate of document destruction is also filed after each pickup.
Shredding at Home
If you are shredding documents at home, we ask that you please keep it out of your recycling cart, as it is not accepted in the Cary Recycles program. If you are unable to find a location that will recycle your shredded paper, please place it into plastic bags and into your garbage cart for collection.
