Acknowledging the Past While STREAMing Into the Future
In 2024, Cary expanded its programming for Black History & African American Appreciation Month to include a variety of activities and events throughout the month of February. This expansive recognition and celebration of Black History Month warranted Cary's Cultural Resources Division to be recognized in a National Parks & Recreation Publication.
The 2024 theme was "Acknowledging the Past While STREAMing Into the Future." STREAM is an acronym for "Science, Technology, Research, Education, Arts, and Music." The month consisted of related films, adults' and children's art classes, concerts, art exhibitions, poetic readings and book signings, a culinary sampling, a STEM program, and a STREAM Symposium. Events were held in various venues across town including the Cary Arts Center, The Cary Theater, Page-Walker Arts & History Center, and the Downtown Cary Park.
Thank you for joining us, and we look forward to celebrating with you again in 2025! Please enjoy the photo album with a sampling from some of the events. Photos provided by CR Photos and Mathias Bishop.
Are you a community organization or nonprofit interested in producing a future Black History & African American Appreciation Month (BHAAM) program or event? If so, please contact our Black History & African American Appreciation Month Coordinator Kim Roberts at Kim.Roberts@carync.gov.
