Supply list for Cary Arts Center's Visual Arts Programs in July through December 2024.
November 9, 2024: Continuing to Draw (Ginny O'Neal)
Supplies needed:
- 9”x12” (or similar) spiral sketchbook
- Prismacolor Ebony graphite pencil (ultra smooth, jet black)
- Derwent Graphic 6 or 8B pencil
- HB pencil (any brand)
- Prismacolor kneaded eraser
- Staedtler (or similar) white eraser
- #3 paper stump
- Hand-held pencil sharpener
- 12” ruler
- 8”x10” hard copy of a favorite close-up face (no electronic pics or originals, please)
- Optional: Pigma Micron archival ink 03 pen
November 10, 2024: Painting Abstract Flowers (Addie Hirschten)
Supplies needed:
- Canvases:
- One gesso-primed canvas, size 16”x20”
- Palette:
- Disposable palette paper pad or Masterson Palette Sealed Box
- Brushes:
- 3-5 synthetic brushes for acrylic painting in a variety of shapes and sizes (#12 is a good mid-range size)
- Medium-sized cup to hold water
- Paper towels or rags
- Something to transport wet works in
- Paints:
- To have a well rounded set of paints it is recommended that you purchase a warm and cool of each primary plus white. Good quality brands include Windsor Newton, Grumbacher, or Liquitex Basics. Here is a suggested list of colors:
- Cadmium yellow light (cool)
- Yellow Ochre or Cadmium yellow (warm)
- Ultramarine blue (warm)

- Drawing pad- Minimum size 9x12" drawing pad, white paper
- (Optional) Drawing pad or sketchbook 9x12" toned paper (in a color other than white)

December 28, 2024: Tabletop Gaming Miniatures (Lauren Polak)
Supplies needed:
Required:
- 2- 20-30mm unpainted plastic or metal miniatures (I recommend reapermini.com, bombshellminis.com, stonehavenmini.com, darkswordminiatures.com, or wizkids' "D&D Nolzur's Marvelous Unpainted Minis")
- size 1 round brush (choose something soft, I prefer synthetic sable or gold taklon)
Suggested but not required:
- size 5/0 or 10/0 round or liner brush
- size 4 flat brush (or any smallish flat, bright or filbert for broad application of primer and sealer)
- acrylic miniature paint and basing materials will be available but feel free to bring any you would like to use, paint brands I recommend are Reaper, Army Painter and Citadel. Craft acrylic is not suitable.
December 29, 2024: Vision Boards (Addie Hirschten)
Supplies needed:
- One large high quality sheet of paper, size 12" x 12" or larger
- Glue sticks
- Scissors
- Pencil
- Optional: Any magazine or printed images that you would like to include in your piece.

Students shouldn't feel like they need to get all of these, but choose their favorites:
