History and Naming

photograph of annie lee jonesAnnie Lee Jones (b.1922 – d.1989) served as town clerk, finance director, treasurer and tax collector for the Town of Cary from 1954 to 1981. Jones, whose family roots ran deep in Cary, graduated from Cary High School. She was so esteemed for her service that in 1979, the town officially named a new park on Tarbert Drive in her honor. Mayor Fred Bond shared that “Annie has served the town well for many years… She watched the way we have spent every cent.” Over 250 people attended the dedication.
