Concrete Tee Pads
In October 2023, all 56 of our 8' x 14' tee pads (Blue, White & Red) were upgraded to concrete. 1500 Cubic feet of concrete was used to to complete this conversion. This project is the kick-off to a year's long effort to get the course ready to host the 2024 Tim Selinske United States Masters Disc Golf Tournament.
Bad Shot Bells at Diavolo
Starting in August 2022, large chimes have been installed at the Diavolo at New Hope disc golf course as an experiment to protect and reduce damage to some of our most exposed trees on the course.
The chimes are an artistic alternative to the traditional ways of protecting trees with welded wire, plastic wrapping, or bulky padding.
After a review period to determine if there are any maintenance concerns, additional chimes may be installed to protect other exposed trees.
Artwork at Diavolo
In July 2021, the Town permanently installed artwork at the Diavolo at New Hope disc golf course. The two pieces, both commissioned works by artist John Merigian, were installed near the entrance of the course and on the course's signature hole, Hole 9. Titled "Calvin" and "Rejoice" the pieces match similar pieces also created by John Merigian and installed at the New Hope Church Trailhead, just across the street from the course.
Backstory
In 2012, the Town started programming the Downtown Urban Open (DUO) disc golf tournament to showcase a growing sport and to increase awareness for additional local courses. The next year, in 2013, an art piece by John Merigian named "Contender" was on display at Cary Town Hall as part of the Town's annual art exhibition. Seeing an opportunity to use an existing piece of artwork to brand and market the tournament, the Town and the artist created an agreement to add a disc golf disc to the image of the artwork and use it as a branding image for the tournament. The "Contender" has since been used in tournament marketing every year since. Fast forward one decade and the relationship between Cary Disc Golf and the artist has resulted in some of the first dedicated artwork installed on a disc golf course in the state.

Course Layout
All of the blue and white tees are open and playable. Red tees, as well as the Novice loop, are planned and will be implemented over time. The 22-hole course can be reconfigured into multiple 18-hole layouts for different skill levels and tournaments. It is laid out on two parcels separated by the America Tobacco Trail Greenway. The course has a mix of open and wooded holes and two water holes and makes good use of the local terrain. Diavolo was primarily designed for intermediate to advanced players but will have tees for all skill levels. Also designed into the course are 3 “Fusion” Holes, these Fusion holes combine two existing par 3 holes to create a longer and more challenging par 4. These can be brought online for tournaments or during general play. The fusion holes are permanently signed, and some have separate tee pads.
Please represent the sport well, encourage new players, and help keep the course clean.
Sundays are designated “pick-up-while-you-play” days to keep this gem looking good.
Community Investment and Partnership
Diavolo at New Hope was approved as part of a 2012 Community Investment Bond. The course was conceived and designed by Jay Pontier (Capital Area Disc League President) and Mike Sink (PRCR Staff). The construction of the course was also a joint collaboration between Town Staff and the Capital Area Disc League. This course would not have been possible without the special collaboration between Cary and the Capital Area Disc League, and many other volunteers.
