Rescue company tools of front bumper

The Logistics Division of the Cary Fire Department is responsible for the procurement and maintenance of all capital assets for the department. This includes all fire stations, firefighting apparatus and equipment, department vehicles, and technology. From thermal imaging cameras to multigas air monitors; particulate-blocking hoods to built-in drag rescue devices in turnout coats; and specialized equipment for technical rescues from high, low, land, water, air, vehicle, and anywhere someone can get trapped, the fire department uses advanced technology and up-to-date methods to serve our citizens and protect our personnel.

Current Projects

Apparatus

  • Nine existing fire apparatus are being retrofitted with Idle Reduction Technology, which will result in fuel savings and extended engine life.
  • A replacement fire engine is due in early 2024 and another in August 2024. Two rescue trucks are due to be replaced in 2025.
  • The Cary Fire Department has entered into an agreement with Atlantic Emergency Solutions and Pierce to place an order for a Volterra engine. The Volterra engine is a primarily electric-powered vehicle that has a diesel engine onboard as a secondary power source. We anticipate taking possession of the Volterra in the January/February time frame of 2025. This truck will be the first Pierce Volterra on the East Coast.

Facilities

  • Station 4 on Old Apex Road, which opened in 1986, is being renovated. For more information, see the Fire Station Rehabilitation Project page.
  • Fire Administration, currently located at 100 N. Academy St., is projected to relocate to the Jordan Hall building on Harrison Avenue in 2024.
