The Sams-Jones House is an excellent and locally rare example of a Queen Anne cottage dating to the turn of the 20th century. The house is also significant for its connection to Cary High School as the home of Andrew Fuller Sams, a teacher and principal at the school in the earliest years of the 20th century. Members of the Jones family owned the house for 61 years beginning in 1914. 

As part of the FY 2012 budget, the Cary Town Council allocated $8 million for capital projects that will aid in the redevelopment and revitalization of Cary's downtown area. Utilizing this budget, the town purchased the Sams-Jones House in 2011, for $595,000.

Now being adaptively reused as a restaurant, the Sams-Jones House retains important elements of the Queen Anne-style, including:

• projecting gables to front and side
• dominant front-facing gable
• asymmetrical façade
• pyramidal hipped roof
• interior-located chimneys
• decorative millwork on the wrap-around porch.
