Chief Terry Sult was appointed on October 19, 2021, to serve as Cary’s Interim Chief of Police. Following a nationwide search for a permanent Chief, Cary Town Manager Sean R. Stegall announced that Sult would serve as Cary's newest Chief of Police on June 10, 2022.
“Terry has an extensive operation and administrative background, bringing with him not one but three tours as a police chief in three states. This will serve the department and community well as we ensure our readiness for urban policing challenges and national crime trends. A large part of Terry’s time as Cary’s Chief of Police will be spent on establishing a leadership pipeline that will grow multiple chiefs through leadership and organizational development opportunities and learning,” said Stegall.
“The Town of Cary is continuing to grow and redevelop, bringing vast new opportunities and challenges for the community. The opportunity to work alongside such professional, forward thinking, talented and dedicated people is irresistible. Thus, it is a great honor to be selected as Cary’s new police chief.” said Sult.
