Cary, N.C. – Get ready to belt out your favorite Mariah Carey holiday classics at Mariah Careyoke, a festive karaoke event hosted by the Town of Cary and MIX 101.5 WRAL-FM. The holiday season will be in full swing on November 22 at Downtown Cary Park from 7 to 9 p.m., where contestants age five and up are invited to showcase their vocal talents on stage among the lights and atmosphere of a decked-out Downtown Cary. Contestants must be registered in advance in order to participate. Performances will be judged by MIX Mornings hosts Kyle Smelser, Bryan Lord, and Sarah King, with the winner receiving tickets to see Mariah Carey perform live in concert on December 9 at the Lenovo Center in Raleigh along with a $100 gift card.
“If Mariah Carey lived in North Carolina, this would be the town that she’d live in,” said MIX 101.5 morning host and competition judge Kyle Smelser.
The competition is part of Cary’s Heart of the Holidays celebration, and comes three weeks after Mayor Harold Weinbrecht, Jr. issued a proclamation temporarily changing the spelling of the town to “C-A-R-E-Y” for one day on November 1 in honor of the season and Mariah’s contributions to it. The announcement was made on local radio station MIX 101.5 WRAL-FM’s morning show with Carey present, to which she responded “this is perfect,” and “I need to move there.”
The event is free to attend, and spectators are encouraged to join in the holiday cheer both on November 22 and all season long with the twinkling lights, seasonal sights, and festive events of the Heart of the Holidays in Cary. Competition and registration information is available on Downtown Cary Park’s event webpage.
